After having a a stressful week. I decided to make a body oil with French Lavender, known to have calming properties. After showering and using the body oil as my moisturizer, I thought “hello, why didn’t I make a companion soap?!” I remember watching a video by Kimberly Mcnutt making a soap for just this purpose. I made a few tweaks here & there, but I based my recipe on her video. I’ll put the link below.
*Follow basic Hot Process soaping instructions.
I used stearic acid in my recipe, but you can up your lard by 1oz.if you don’t have any.
This is Kim’s basic recipe. I changed the superfats, and the amount of essential oils.
You can find her recipe at http://www.kimberlymcnutt.com and her video at http://youtu.be/cHctBz9Fuag
Coconut oil 13oz.
Lard 13 oz.
Soybean oil 8oz.
Stearic Acid 1oz.
Lye: 5.5oz.
Water: 13.3oz.
3oz. total essential oils
1oz. French lavender eo
2oz. Lavender 40/42 eo
(I superfated at 7 percent, but you can superfat between 3-10 percent)
Superfats 1oz. Mango butter
1oz. Extra Virgin olive oil
1oz. Safflower olive oil
Melt together & add after the cook. Mix well. Allow to cool to 160 degrees or below before adding essential oils. Mix well. Sprinkle approximately 1 T. Of alkanet root over your batch, swirl into your soap. Place soap into your mold. I chose to do a spoon swirl on top, and sprinkle with cosmetic grade iridescent glitter, but you can design as you like. This is a wonderful soap. It cleanses well, and because of the superfat, it leaves your skin soft and moisturized.
Here’s the finished product!
